LB Forsikring is a member-owned insurance company consisting of various insurance groups. Today, they employ around 900 skilled employees and are the fourth-largest insurance company in the private market in Denmark. Their business is supported by various IT solutions, and the quality of these solutions—along with their continuous development—is essential for LB Forsikring to remain an attractive and efficient insurance provider.
LB Forsikring has made significant investments in testing and quality assurance, employing many skilled professionals to handle various testing tasks. However, they needed additional team members to continue supporting their business with high-quality IT deliveries.
Competition for Qualified IT Professionals Led LB Forsikring to Think Outside the Box
It is well known that there is intense competition for qualified professionals within the IT industry. Like many other companies, LB Forsikring faced challenges in recruiting the right candidates who already possessed the necessary testing competencies.
Rather than competing for the limited number of experienced testers willing to change jobs, LB Forsikring chose to think outside the box. They focused on finding individuals with the right prerequisites, mindset, and personality but who lacked formal testing expertise. Their approach, in collaboration with TestHuset, was to develop a training program for new employees, enabling them to upskill and take on their new roles in testing and QA.
“The collaboration with TestHuset allowed us to get employees up to speed much faster, enabling them to contribute to projects and deliver value through professional and structured testing and QA. Additionally, the program was structured in a way that also enhanced the skills of some of our existing employees.”
— Kristian Leonhard, Department Manager, Sitecore & Web
In collaboration with LB Forsikring, TestHuset developed a training program consisting of courses, task sessions, and mentorship to ensure that new employees acquired the necessary testing competencies to perform effectively as testers. The program provided both a theoretical foundation and practical experience, enabling participants to apply methods and techniques in their daily project work.
The participants covered topics such as:
Between the individual course modules, participants engaged in task sessions where they applied specific techniques in their own daily work and projects. They then submitted their work to an instructor for feedback.
The program was also supplemented with various internal courses, including SAFe® and test tools, as well as a mentorship program with LB Forsikring’s own Test Managers, helping participants translate theoretical knowledge into practical application.
At the same time, while new employees were being upskilled, more experienced employees also received training in specific competency areas.
The program enabled LB Forsikring to choose from a much larger pool of candidates, making it easier to select individuals who fit well within their organization.
Within just six months, LB Forsikring successfully integrated five new professional testers into their organization. These testers were able to contribute qualified testing and QA to IT deliveries early in their training. For LB Forsikring, this proved to be a smart investment and an effective approach to bringing qualified professionals into their organization.
